Fluoroscopy
Getting prepared for your fluoroscopy study is easy. Most examinations require little or no preparation before your appointment. Please read and follow the instructions below to make sure we can perform the best study possible.
You must bring your prescription (order form) with you to the examination. If you have any questions regarding these instructions, call 703-588-8500.
Please choose from one of the following examinations to view the study intructions:
- Barium Swallow (Esophagram)
- Barium Enema
- Cystogram
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
- Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)
- Small Bowel Series
- Upper GI Series
- Voiding Cystourethrogram (VCUG)
Barium Swallow (Esophagram)
Instructions:
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
- You may take your regular morning medications with a small cup of water prior to the exam.
Barium Enema
Instructions:
On the day before the examination:
- Drink 1 bottle of X-Prep or Magnesium Citrate at 3PM.
- Drink only clear liquids from 3PM until midnight. (No solid food)
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
Cystogram
No preparation is required.
Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
Instructions:
- The exam must be scheduled 6-10 day from the beginning of the last menstrual cycle.
- No preparation for the exam is required.
Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)
Instructions:
On the day before the examination:
- Drink 1 bottle of X-Prep or Magnesium Citrate at 3PM.
- Drink only clear liquids from 3PM until midnight. (No solid food)
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
Small Bowel Series
Instructions:
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
- You may take your regular morning medications with a small cup of water prior to the exam.
Upper GI Series
Instructions:
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
- You may take your regular morning medications with a small cup of water prior to the exam.
Voiding Cystourethrogram (VCUG)
No preparation is required.
